Brody Stevens (born May 22, 1970) is an American stand-up comedian and actor.

Life

Brody Stevens' family is from New Mexico and Arizona. He describes them as the "pioneering Jews of the southwest"[1]. Brody grew up in the San Fernando Valley, California. He was briefly enrolled in private school, until his mother decided he would attend public school[2]. His parents divorced when Brody was in his early teens, his father moved to Sacramento and Brody lived with his mother and older sister in "The Valley". Brody did not go to Hebrew School or read from the Torah for his Bar Mitzvah. He attended Reseda High School, excelling on the baseball team as a right-handed pitcher[3]. Highs included striking out 10 batters on multiple occasions[4][5]. Lows included balking in runs in playoff games[6]. Brody went on to earn a scholarship to play Division I College Baseball for the Arizona State Sun Devils baseball program, starting in four games, pitching 23 innings and recording a save[7]. He graduated with a 2.52 GPA[1]. His father, Harry Morris Brody, died in 1997. He was 63 years old. He gets along with his mother, acting as a positive influence in the care of her rescue dog Daisy. Brody is also a skilled percussionist and is 6'2", 210 lbs.

Career

Brody first tried stand-up in Los Angeles, before moving to Seattle, where he began developing an act, in addition to creating and starring in a public-access television show that garnered a cult following. His career continued for a three year stint in New York City, before he found a permanent home in the Los Angeles comedy scene. Brody's television credits include Premium Blend, The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn, "The Test" (TV Series 2001) with Jillian Barberie, Late World with Zach, The Best Damn Sports Show Period, Chelsea Lately, Tosh.0, TMZ on TV and Fox NFL Sunday.

Brody's movie credits include Jesus Is Magic, Due Date, The Hangover, and The Hangover Part II. Brody has been called a "comic's comic". He has many fans and friends throughout the comedy and entertainment world, most notably Zach Galifianakis[8][2]. In addition, Brody is a podcaster, both as a guest, and as the host of his own now defunct podcast "The Brody Stevens Experiment". Recently, Brody has begun co-hosting a new podcast with fellow stand-up comedian Esther Povitsky, called "The Brode & Esther Show".
